Turned on your air conditioning system only to find it’s not working as it should? Perhaps it’s noisy, underperforming, or showing an error code?
Check below for common causes of these issues and potential solutions to get your system back on track.
If the problem persists, give Buderim Air a call at 07 5445 4911, and one of our skilled technicians will have your air conditioner running smoothly in no time.
NOT COOLING
If your air conditioning system isn’t cooling effectively or seems to be running inefficiently, it could be due to airflow issues, such as dirty air filters, or a refrigerant leak.
NOISY UNIT
Excessive noise from your unit often signals wear and tear, particularly in the fan motor bearings of either the indoor or outdoor units. Replacing these worn components is essential to maintain the unit’s longevity and prevent further damage.
FAULT CODE
An error code on the control panel means the system has detected a fault. This could be due to faulty electronics, blocked filters, or a refrigerant leak. Try resetting the system at the electrical isolator. If the code persists, further testing is necessary to pinpoint the issue.
BAD ODOUR
If your air conditioner emits a stale odor, it likely needs a thorough service. Mold, bacteria, or sludge buildup in the evaporator unit or drain lines are common culprits. Buderim Air offers a comprehensive “Full Monty Chemical clean” which involves stripping the unit down and chemically cleaning to remove any buildup and eliminate bad smells.
POOR PERFORMANCE
Poor performance is often due to blocked air filters or a dirty condenser coil, which prevents proper air circulation. This forces the system to work harder, leading to higher energy usage and potential system failures. Regular servicing helps prevent these issues and improves efficiency.
LEAKING WATER
Water leaking from your indoor or outdoor unit indicates the need for a service. Drain lines can clog over time with debris, causing water to build up inside the unit. Buderim Air can perform a routine service to clear the drain lines, clean the system, and ensure optimal performance.
NOT TURNING ON
If your system won’t turn on and shows no sign of power, check the main electrical isolator by the outdoor unit and the main circuit breaker to see if either has tripped. If power isn’t the issue, Buderim Air can diagnose the fault and recommend a solution to get your system running again. It is likely to be an electrical issue within the system.
GAS LEAK
If a gas leak is suspected, Buderim Air can perform a leak test to identify the exact location and repair it where possible. However, if the leak is found within the evaporator or condenser coil, repairs are not feasible, and the affected component will need to be replaced. Refrigerant leaks not only impair system performance and may cause ice buildup but are also harmful to the environment, making prompt attention essential.

How Buderim Air Assist You?
What services do we offer?
We recognize the urgency of addressing air conditioning breakdowns, especially when our clients depend on their systems for comfort or business operations. Our team of skilled, licensed technicians has extensive experience in all aspects of air conditioning and refrigeration, enabling them to swiftly diagnose and resolve issues.
There are diagnostic charges for having a licensed technician assess your system. However, any repairs or replacements are fully quoted prior to beginning work, ensuring transparency and allowing you to make informed decisions.
Each of our service vehicles is stocked with replacement parts, saving clients both time and money. In cases where additional parts are needed, we work with suppliers who offer the best pricing and fastest lead times in the industry.
When should replacement be considered over repair?
Most air conditioning systems come with a manufacturer’s warranty covering at least 5 years. After this period, repairs and replacement parts will typically be charged.
We may recommend system replacement if your unit is over 7-8 years old, if parts are no longer available, or if repair costs approach 30% of the price of a new system. New Reverse Cycle Inverter air conditioning systems can enhance energy efficiency by over 50% compared to older models, leading to long-term savings.
